A Love Letter to My Friends.

This is a short poem dedicated to all the genuine friendships out there. To my friends: I love you all so so much. Nothing you do ever goes unnoticed and I am so eternally grateful to have you in my life.

Do you ever stop and think

In the silence between songs in a long car ride with one of your friends

Between scream-singing and windows rolled down

The wind blowing through your hair and volume at full max

Do you think about love?

Do you ever think about the love shared amongst people in between those moments?

Paying for each other's food not worrying about paying the other back

Giving someone the last piece of gum

Swiping up on their private story

Making a playlist together

Noticing the work someone put into their outfit that day

Or how their hair looks extra good

Running up to someone in the hallway just to walk them to class

Impromptu lunch dates

Sharing Airpods and listening to music in silence

There's an invisible ray of sunshine that beams from me onto you

My smile gets a little bit brighter when you walk into the room

Maybe we don’t talk about it much

Or ever

The love we share for one another?

It's such a beautiful thing

Friendship.

Finding friends that make you feel seen, cared about, listened to

Friends that make you smile when you think about them, looking forward to the next time you get to see them

Even if for a couple of extra seconds in the hallway

I cherish those couple extra seconds

Because,

I know how it feels to be brushed over.

To have people, but not my people

To always have to second-guess what I’m about to say

Overthinking my actions; trying extra hard to check the boxes and fit into the mold

All for someone who was supposed to make my light brighter,

not dim it.

So when I find someone that makes my light glow, I hold on a little tighter; hoping that I can make their light shine just as bright as they make mine.

There is love in so many things. But the love I find in friendships will never fail to amaze me

People who choose to spend time together, not bound by the ties of family or romance--

But simply because they truly want to?

Like yes, I chose you.

I want to sit in the library on a random Tuesday with you

I want to tell you all the things I promised someone else I wouldn’t dare share

I want to bake a cake with you and decorate it really badly and then laugh about it after

Because life feels a little lighter with people who care about you as equally as you care about them.
